CPU Compare: Compare Any Two Processors

A processor comparison is the socket, the core count, the gaming score, and the bottleneck result with one graphics card held still. This page writes that out for eight pairs. The card is an RTX 4070 at 1440p, with 16GB DDR4-3200 dual channel, NVMe, ray tracing off, and upscaling off.

How Our CPU Scores Work

Gaming and rendering are different fields: the bottleneck calculator uses the gaming score for a gaming workload. The rendering score is the other column, for workloads that scale with more cores. A chip can lead one and not the other. The table shows both so a streaming or editing build is not judged on the gaming number alone.

Socket and Upgrade Path

Socket: AM4 takes the 5600, the 5700X3D, and the 5800X3D after the BIOS the board needs. That path is ranked in the AM4 CPUs guide. AM5 is the current AMD desktop socket for the 7600, the 7800X3D, and the 9800X3D. LGA1700 is the Intel socket for 12th, 13th, and 14th gen, and it ends there. LGA1851 is the socket stored for the Core Ultra 7 265KF. A higher score on a different socket is a new board, not a drop-in chip.

Whether the board and the card physically belong together is the CPU and GPU compatibility check. The score does not answer that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why hold the graphics card still?

If both the CPU and the GPU change, you cannot tell which part moved the percent. The RTX 4070 is a published pairing on this site, so the CPU is the only new variable.

The 5700X3D row has no TDP. Is the TDP zero?

No. The field is 0 in the database for that chip, and for most CPUs in the file. This page hides the field instead of printing 0W.

Does a higher rendering score mean more FPS?

Not in this calculator. FPS estimates use the gaming path. Use the rendering score when the work is rendering, not when the work is a game.
